The project
This project is a case study within the course Environmental geology GVK 460 at Gothenburg University and aims to evaluate the the risks and sensitive areas through modeling in the Sannäs area in Tanumshede municipality. The project is based on several different modeling techniques; Regional Risk Ranking, Environmental Sensitivity Index and Multi-Criteria Evaluation.
Sannäs is one of the most well documented areas along the Bohus coast and has continuously been studied by researchers from Gothenburg University among others. The goal with this project is to get an overall picture of the area by collecting data from multiple academic disciplines in order to see how different sources of pollutants effect sediment and water quality.
Sannäs
Sannäs is a small beach-side village in the municipality of Tanum and is situated by the Sannäs fjord. It started as a fishing village when the herring peaked and many people moved to the area. In the late 19th century the stone masonry bloomed and once again the village growed, 300 people lived in the village during the stone masonry period. The 19th century buildings from that period are today protected as they are classed as national conservation memory. These buildings are not the only prtected features in the area but both natural reserves and Natura 2000 areas are situated close to Sannäs. Today many of the occupants are part time residences and the most dominating activites in Sannäs are tourism, agriculture and fishing, even if the harbour today is no longer an industrial harbour but a small recreational boat harbour (Tanums kommun, 2017).
